It’s My Birthday!

It’s my birthday!  I LOVE MY BIRTHDAY! Something really cool about my birthday (you know besides the whole May the 4th be with you thing) is that I have the same birthday as Audrey Hepburn.  Only I’m much much younger and much much more alive than she is.

The fabulous Audrey Hepburn... My birthday buddy!

The fabulous Audrey Hepburn… My birthday buddy!

Let me tell you a bit about how totally cool Audrey (yes I do think that since we have the same birthday we are now on a first name basis) was.  First she had a pet deer named Pippin.  If that doesn’t make you jealous that I  share a birthday with her, I don’t know what will!

More importantly though is her legacy.  Audrey was the daughter of a Nazi sympathizer, but she didn’t let that stop her from secretly raising money, through ballet dancing, to help support the Dutch resistance against the Nazis.

When Audrey retired from acting she became a good will ambassador for UNICEF.  She did several field trips with the organization and also went to work, promoting and fundraising for them.

On top of all that my birthday buddy Audrey was wickedly funny and seriously wise. A few of my favorite quotes of hers are:

“The past, I think, has helped me appreciate the present, and I don’t want to spoil any of that by fretting about the future.”

“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”

“I was born with an enormous need for affection, and a terrible need to give it.”

Now in the spirit of the awesomeness of Audrey Hepburn, and because it’s my birthday too, I have a couple of  wishes I hope you will help me with.

First I wish that every single person reading this post today would perform an act of intentional kindness.  Some ideas that are dear to my heart are:

Donate to Hope for Henry (even a little bit makes a difference)

Buy an extra latte for a panhandler (and maybe stick around for a little while and have a chat)

Compliment a stranger. (their t-shirt, their shoes, their sunny smile)

Write a thank you note to someone.

Of course you are more than welcome to come up with your own idea, but do leave me a comment and tell me what you did!

Second I wish you would all subscribe to my newsletter so that I can send you a free gift on my birthday!  It’s really easy!  Just fill in the form at the top right and you will get my once a month newsletter and a free gift!

Have a great day, and May the 4th be with you!
